FAQ

What is NostalgiCar Tours & Garage?

We are a family business owned and operated by Julio Alvarez and wife Nidialys Acosta. We provide travelers with drive tours around Havana in our beautifully restored vintage American cars from the 50’s, and also trips to the beaches and the countryside.

We operate under “cuentapropista” licenses issued by the Cuban authorities. Also, cars have a license from Taxis Cuba, the government transportation agency.

We restore and maintain our cars in our own NostalgiCar Garage.

How can I book your drive tours?

You can book directly with us by telephone, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger or email (please find details in the Contact Us section of this website. You pay directly to our drivers or staff, in cash (Cuban Pesos, US dollars or Euros).

Our following experiences are featured in airbnb.com, with instant confirmations and online payment:

Vintage Wheels (includes visit to our garage): https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/67622
Fishing in the Road: https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/335782

Alternatively, you can book through your preferred tour operator as part of a package – we have contracts with all main agencies featuring Cuba as a destination. Please ask specifically for NostalgiCar – there are a lot of vintage cars operating in Havana, but not all with the correct standards for restoration and safety.

Why do you give names to your cars?

We have a special personal relationship with our cars – intimate, passionate. We share with them sweat, tears, sometimes even blood. We talk to them, we get angry at them. We name them after people who have had an impact on our lives.

Where are you located?

Our head office is located at our NostalgiCar Garage in Havana, Cuba. Please see details in the Contact Us section of this website.

Can you pick us up in a Casa Particular?

Yes, we can start the tours anywhere you are staying in Havana.

How can cars be identified as part of NostalgiCar?

As shown on the picture below, our NostalgiCar logo is on the front vent windows, the front windshield or the back windshield.

Do the cars often go through vehicle inspection so they can freely circulate?

In order to provide a transportation service, all our cars must go through a government inspection every year, after which they are given the corresponding seal on the front windshield.

How many people can travel in each vintage car?

The cars can accommodate up to four passengers.

How do you restore the cars?

We restore and maintain our cars in our NostalgiCar Garage (also available for visits). Most of the damaged parts are restored here, and the rest are imported from reputable distributors in the US through tortuous and expensive mechanisms.
